KARACHI:

A fire broke out in a factory warehouse located in Federal B Area on Thursday morning and burned goods worth millions of rupees.

The fire department received the information at 7:15am and dispatched its trucks to the site. By that time, the fire had already engulfed the warehouse.  “It took six hours to control the fire by 20 fire trucks,” said Arif Mansuri, the station officer of the Gulistan-e-Mustafa Fire Station. The fire department declared it a third-degree fire but they have yet to ascertain what caused it. Fortunately, no one was hurt.

The warehouse is located in Block 21 of Federal B Area and it contained vegetable oil and other food items. The warehouse is spread over 5,000 square feet but there were no fire safety equipment on the premises, said a firefighter.

“They could have saved valuables worth millions if they had any fire safety measures in place,” said Mansuri. As there were no houses near the warehouse, the blaze did not cause any loss of human lives. The fire was brought under control by 11:30am but the cooling process continued well into the day.
