Combatting polio: Dahar promises change within six months

Dahar said action should be taken against quacks, adding that he had accepted the ministry of health as a challenge

Food minister Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar promised of visible reforms in the health department within six months. 


He said this while presiding over a meeting at the Sindh Secretariat after assuming the charge of health minister on Thursday.

Health secretary Iqbal Durrani apprised him that so far 23 polio cases had been detected, of which 21 were reported in Karachi, one in Dadu and one in Sanghar.


Besides this, 763 dengue cases had been reported, of which749 were reported in Karachi, four in Hyderabad, three in Balochistan and seven in other districts of Sindh. Durrani said that 67 hospitals and other health facilities were working under the Sindh health department.

He added that 6,217,980 children have been vaccinated against various diseases so far.

Dahar said that action should be taken against quacks, adding that he had accepted the ministry of health as a challenge.

It was announced during the meeting that a polio campaign was being launched in 188 union councils of Karachi.
