Quota system: SC to take up govt's appeal against FSC judgement today
Five judge appellate bench of the Supreme Court bench, headed by Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan will hear the case

The Supreme Court on Thursday is expected to take up 22 year old federal and provincial governments’ appeals against Federal Shariat Court judgment wherein quota system was declared un-Islamic.
The five judge appellate bench of the Supreme Court bench, headed by Justice Ejaz Afzal Khan will hear the case.
The FSC on April 23, 1992 had declared that section 14 of Civil Servants (Appointments, Promotion and Transfer) rules 1973 as un-Islamic. The court has already stayed the FSC judgment.
Later on, the federal and other provincial governments, including the Sindh government, had challenged the FSC judgment.
Deputy Attorney General Sohail Mahmood will argue on behalf of federal government before the bench Thursday.
Legal experts say the court’s ruling on this issue will be significant under the prevailing political scenario where most of the political parties, including the MQM, are demanding an end to the quota system.
