Security arrangements: 888 majalis to be held in Sukkur before Ashura
Around 4,000 policemen and 400 Rangers will be on duty during Muharram

Fool-proof security arrangements have been made to avoid untoward incidents during Ashura throughout Sukkur. Nearly 888 majalis will be held till Muharram 10 and 129 processions will be carried out in the distict.
Sukkur SSP Tanveer Hussain Tunio told The Express Tribune that 4,000 policemen and 400 Rangers will be on duty to maintain the law and order situation. He added that the number could vary depending on how many personnel were needed and when.
The SSP said that more than 100 processions will be carried out till Muharram 10. He added that a big procession will be held in Old Sukkur on Muharram 5. Processions in Rohri, Sukkur, Pannu Aqil on Muharram 9 and 10 have been declared sensitive.
According to the SSP, CCTV cameras have been installed in Old Sukkur, Rohri and Sukkur to monitor the Muharram processions. He said that they had asked the Sukkur Electric Power Company to avoid load-shedding from 5pm to 2am to avoid any mishaps.
He added that all routes to the Muharram procession will be sealed 24-hours ahead of the processions. The SSP claimed that the entry of nine Ulema had been banned from the district for security reasons. He asked people to inform the people if they saw anything suspicious.
While talking about the security measures taken for Thursday's procession in Old Sukkur, the SSP said that SP Amjad Hayat will be the security in-charge and will be assisted by two DSPs, 19 inspectors, 23 sub-inspectors, 32 ASIs, 63 head constables, 341 constables and 100 Rangers. Nearly 10 CCTV cameras will be installed on the procession's route which will start from Lal Makan near Jinnat Building and will end at Dittal Shah near the Jeay Shah Chowk. Two control rooms - one mobile and one in the SSP's office have been established to monitor the processions.
