Big B summoned by US court for ‘instigating violence’ against Sikhs
Big B accused of raising slogans against Sikhs after PM Indira Gandhi was shot dead by her Sikh bodyguards in 1984
Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan has been summoned by a federal court in Los Angeles for allegedly instigating violence against the Sikh community during the November 1984 massacre, The Times of India reported on Tuesday.
Big B has apparently been accused of raising the slogan “Khoon ka badla khoon” on October 31, 1984 after then Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi was shot dead by her two Sikh bodyguards.
Bachchan has 21 days to respond to the charges of human rights violations.
"If you failed to respond, judgment by default will be entered against you for relief demanded in the complaint," reads the October 27 summon issued by the US federal court.
The complaint against Bachchan was filed by New York-based Sikh for Justice (SFJ) and two alleged victims of the anti-Sikh riots.
The victims, Babu Singh Dukhiya and Mohender Singh are based in Delhi and California, respectively, reported The Economic Times.
The 35-page complaint claims that the Bollywood mega star instigated people for violence after the assassination of Indira Gandhi.
The 1984 anti-Sikhs riots or the November 1984 Sikh Massacre was a series of persecutions directed against Sikhs in India, by anti-Sikh mobs, in response to the assassination of Indira Gandhi by her Sikh bodyguards.
There were more than 8,000 deaths, including 3,000 in Delhi.
