Villagers killed a robber while three others fled on Monday during a shootout in Mamu Kanjan. Rafiq Hussain, a resident of Chak 555-GB, told The Express Tribune four armed men had entered the house of Jaffar Hussain after midnight, held the family at gunpoint and started collecting valuables.
He said the family started crying for help attracting the neighbours’ attention. “The villagers came around and told the robbers to give up but they resorted to firing.” Rafiq said the villagers retaliated. He said the shootout continued for half an hour leaving one of the robbers dead.
The remaining three fled leaving the loot behind. The Mamu Kanjan station house officer (SHO) said they had sent the body for an autopsy. He said the slain man had been identified as Imtiaz, a resident of the same village. “A team has been formed to arrest his accomplices,” the SHO said.
