Fast-bowler Junaid Khan is likely to miss out on Pakistan’s series against New Zealand scheduled for next month in the UAE.
The left-armer, who injured his knee during a training session on the eve of the first ODI against Australia earlier in the month, is suffering from a Grade-Three osteochodral fracture.
According to a Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) media release, the MRI scans and reports of the bowler are being sent abroad for consultation with experts. The final course of action on his rehabilitation will be determined in the next two days.
The 24-year-old has been a regular in the Test and ODI teams and has already made 18 Test and 48 ODI appearances in a career spanning three years.
On the other hand, fellow left-arm pacer Wahab Riaz is expected to regain full fitness from a knee injury that he sustained during the second ODI against Australia in Dubai, played on October 10.
The PCB’s medical panel is supervising his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore, where the southpaw bowled four pain-free overs in the presence of selector Muhammad Akram yesterday.
