In protest: Sindh will always remain united, says JSQM
JSQM staged a sit-in outside the office of MQM to protest against the demand for a separate Muhajir province.
SUKKUR:
Workers and leaders of the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM) staged a sit-in outside the office of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) in Ghotki to mark their protest against the latter's demand for a separate Muhajir province.
Hundreds of protesters, including women and children, led by JSQM senior vice-chairperson Dr Niaz Kalani gathered outside the Ghotki press club. Armed with banners, they shouted slogans against the MQM leadership and in favour of a united Sindh.
In the meantime, hundreds of workers of the Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), led by its vice-president, Zahid Bhutto, also joined the protest rally, which marched through the main roads of the city to reach the bypass, where the protesters staged a sit-in outside the MQM office.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Kalani strongly condemned the MQM leaders' demand to carve out a Muhajir province within the boundaries of Sindh. He stressed that Sindh was united and will always remain united.
Dr Kalani said that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and MQM had always been in coalition in the Sindh government and they did not have any objections regarding this relationship. He lambasted the PPP as well as the MQM leadership for using Sindh as a mere pawn in their power games . "They should keep Sindh out of their fight over their vested interests," he said.
The speakers claimed that the Urdu-speaking population were their brothers and had been living in Sindh for a long time, therefore the MQM should stop inciting hatred among the two communities.
A large contingent of police personnel was deployed for the security of the rally. As promised, however, the JSQM leaders kept the rally peaceful and dispersed after having recorded their protest. The party will stage a sit-in outside the MQM office in Kandhkot today.
