DCO orders action against transporters
Employee of Taimoor Travels accuses district administration of failing to control dengue fever in the district
FAISALABAD:
Transporters of Faisalabad have expressed dismay over the decision of the district administration to take action against transporters if dengue larvae are found at their bus stands or public transport vehicles. Addressing a meeting on Sunday, the district coordination officer had warned transporters to ensure cleanliness at bus stands and their vehicles. “Transporters are part of the society and should realise their responsibility towards public health,” he said. He directed assistant commissioners to take action against transporters found ignoring cleanliness guidelines.
Talking to The Express Tribune, Muhammad Haleem, an employee of Taimoor Travels accused the district administration of failing to control dengue fever in the district.
Haleem said assistant commissioners and officials of the Health Department had gotten a licence to harass transporters after the orders of the DCO. He said the district administration had not removed garbage heaps from many parts of the city. “If they want to hold us responsible for spreading dengue fever, they should first remove garbage sites near bus stands,” he said.
Ejaz Akram, another transporter, said though the bus bays at General Bus Stand and GTS Chowk had been re-constructed, piles of trash had not been removed.
He said the administration should hold those polluting the environment responsible.
“Before taking action against transporters, the DCO should order action against town municipal authorities for allowing garbage to collect in public areas,” he added.
