Office dispute: Policemen boycott duties to protest colleague’s maltreatment

Constable Ghulam Rasool Jhamat was allegedly beaten by the SHO for refusing to extort money

Police officials deployed at the Khairpur B-Section police station staged a protest outside the SSP House on Friday night to register a complaint against their SHO who had allegedly abused a constable at the police station.


Khairpur B-Section SHO Qabil Bhayo and constable Ghulam Rasool Jhamat got into an altercation over some issue, after which the SHO allegedly beat him up and tore his uniform. According to sources, the SHO in question was drunk at the time and was demanding the constable to extort money for him. When the constable refused to do so, SHO Bhayo started beating him up and tore his uniform.

Following the maltreatment of their colleague, the personnel deployed at the B section police station boycotted duties and went to the SSP House, where they reportedly staged a protest. Khairpur SSP Nasir Aftab met the protesting policemen and assured them of justice, after which the policemen went back to their duties, reports added.

City ASP Khairpur Masood Bangash told The Express Tribune that the SHO has denied the allegations leveled against him. The SHO maintained that he had argued with the constable had argued over a minor issue, following which constable Jhamat had accused him of disorderly conduct. ASP Bangash added that a case has been registered against the constable and disciplinary action will be taken against him.
