Local protest: K-P govt unable to control gas theft
The K-P government has asked OGRA chairman to help the provincial authorities in this respect
ISLAMABAD:
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) government has failed to control gas theft and losses amounting to 1,000 MMCF per month in the province. The provincial government has also expressed its inability to control the widening law and order situation at various places of the province including near Jahangiri and Chakora. This inability was conveyed to the federal government by the chief minister of the province. On the directions of the federal government SNGPL launched a theft control strategy by inserting block valves at downstream of about 55 villages which were stealing gas through illegal offshoots. But locals of that area blocked the Indus Highway and launched continuous series of protests. The K-P government has now asked the chairman Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) to help the provincial authorities in this respect.
