Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Friday said the government is evolving a comprehensive communication strategy which promotes immunisation against polio as the right of every child and calls on all segments of society to ensure this right is upheld.
Talking to polio-affected children and their parents at a ceremony held at the Prime Minister’s House in connection with World Polio Day, the premier reiterated the government’s commitment to eradicating the crippling disease and said all resources were being allocated to achieve this goal.
He said the Prime Minister’s Office has recently kicked off a Polio Eradication Initiative to directly monitor and review progress on ‘this matter of utmost importance’. He added that the Prime Minister’s Focus Group for the Polio Emergency has also been constituted to assess the performance of the polio eradication programme on a monthly basis.
Prime Minister Nawaz also administered polio drops to children at the ceremony.
