Welcome initiative: UAF marks World Polio Day with a walk and a seminar

Senior Media Officer Jamil says 217 cases of polio have been detected to date this year

University of Agriculture Faisalabad (UAF) organised a walk and a seminar on Friday to mark the World Polio Day.


The events were organised on the direction of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to create public awareness regarding polio virus in Pakistan. UAF Student Affairs Principal Officer Muhammad Yunus stressed the need to raise awareness regarding the importance of having children inoculated to eradicate the virus from Pakistan. He said the government had taken several steps in this regard. Yunus urged those present to earnestly participate in the anti-polio campaign.




Public Relations and Publications Principal Officer Jalal Arif praised the media for playing a constructive role in this regard. He expressed his desire to see Pakistan emerge as a polio-free country in the near future. Arif said the varsity had taken several steps in this regard. Senior Media Officer Jamil Asghar said 217 cases of polio had been detected to date this year. He said 140 cases had been detected in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas. Asghar said three cases had been detected in the Punjab.

He said it was binding on parents and teachers to create awareness regarding the importance of having children vaccinated against the virus.

Asghar Ali, Muhammad Akram and Riaz of the Health Department said Faisalabad had been polio-free for 10 years.
