Faisalabad region: FBR wing surpasses collection target

First-quarter revenue increases Rs153 million compared to previous year.

FAISALABAD:
The Federal Board of Revenues (FBR) Customs wing of Faisalabad has surpassed its first-quarter revenue collection target for the region on the back of its anti-smuggling drive.

The Modal Customs Collectorate (MCC) of Faisalabad pooled Rs560.4 million in duties during the July-September period of the current fiscal year, showing an increase of Rs153 million or 37.5% over the collection made in the same period previous year.

“The FBR had set us a target of Rs513.5 million, said Collector Customs Faisalabad region Tausif Ahmad Qureshi.

The regional wing of the FBR showed an impressive performance at a time when the FBR Headquarter missed its overall quarterly collection target.

Qureshi said that after assuming responsibilities of the region, he had been focusing on anti-smuggling and set up special squads that helped achieving the quarterly target. He said in September the anti-Smuggling department of MCC Faisalabad seized smuggled goods and vehicles worth Rs69 million. In the same month of the previous year, the value of the seized goods was Rs37 million.

He said the campaign against anti-smuggling was going well which improved the collectorate’s performance by 90%. Last month, the authorities seized over two dozen consignments of smuggled goods compared to 15 such actions taken in September last year.

“The regional wing is making efforts to improve the collection from a city that has not been contributing at par of its potential,” said Qureshi.
