Crippling Disease: Four polio cases reported in a day
EPI deputy project director for Sindh, Dr Durre Naz Jamal, confirmed the cases
KARACHI:
Four polio cases were reported on Wednesday, two from Sindh and two from Bara in Khyber Agency, bringing the total of polio victims across the country to 214 for the current year. The Extended Programme on Immunisation (EPI) Sindh chapter has reported two new cases of polio in the province on Wednesday which has raised the number of polio cases in Sindh to 21 this year. The EPI deputy project director for Sindh, Dr Durre Naz Jamal, confirmed the cases and said that 18-month-old son of Akbar Zaman, a resident of Gadap Town of Karachi, has been diagnosed with the virus, while 7-month old daughter of Sanaullah, a resident of Dadu district, has also been affected by the virus. Both the toddlers are suffering from wild-type-1 polio virus. The boy had received no vaccination, while the girl had received two doses during the campaigns and the last dose was given on October 1.
