Raising voices: Palijo demands LG elections without further delay
Sindhi nationalist leader Ayaz Latif Palijo, who heads the Qaumi Awami Tehreek (QAT), demanded the Sindh government hold the local government elections in the province without further delay.
"The Pakistan Peoples Party and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement should not put Sindh at stake due to their political conflicts," said Palijo at a press conference on Wednesday.
Palijo announced a province-wide strike on October 23 in reaction to the MQM demand for dividing the Sindh province in administrative units. "We have the support of several political and religious parties," he said. "I appeal to the transporters and traders that they also support our strike."
The QAT leader requested his workers to remain peaceful and abstain from all forms of violence.
The Sindh Assembly had adopted the amended local government bill on October 20, empowering the Election Commission of Pakistan to carry out the delimitation of the local government constituencies.
