Corruption asserted: Students protest over doctor’s arrest

Dozens of students from the Government College for Paramedics staged a protest demonstration on Wednesday over the arrest of a doctor working at the institute.
Anti Corruption Department Faisalabad Assistant Director Zahid Masood Nizami told The Express Tribune that Dr Hamid had been arrested red-handed. “We received a complaint that Dr Hamid had asked a man, Bashir Ahmad, to give him Rs50,000 and promised to get his son a naib qasid’s job at the college. Magistrate Sabir Ali Shah supervised a department team that arrested Dr Hamid while he was receiving the money. The team also seized the marked currency notes from him. A case has been registered against him. The protest was called off after a police officials managed to placate the demonstrators.

The demonstrators gathered in front of the Faisalabad Press Club and staged a sit-in. They chanted slogans against the Anti-Corruption Department for arresting Dr Muhammad Hamid and demanded his immediate release.
Talking to reporters, the protesters said that Dr Hamid was innocent and had been framed in a false case.
