In Custody: Suspected extortionist arrested

Police had failed to arrest the culprit in the past because he would flee to Afghanistan after committing the crime

NOWSHERA:
Police have arrested an extortionist who was demanding Rs4 million from a brick kiln owner in Nowshera. A pistol was also recovered from his possession. According to SP Investigation Nowshera, brick kiln owner Ghosuddin, a resident of Azakhel, had received threats over the phone from an unidentified person who was demanding Rs4 million. The extortionist threatened to kidnap and kill Ghosuddin if his demands were not met, the SP added. The brick-kiln owner instantly lodged a complaint and a special task force was formed to deal with the matter. After a thorough investigation, the team arrested the alleged extortionist on Monday. He has been identified as Niaz Muhammad, a resident of Afghanistan who currently lives in Mirwas Koruna in Mardan. The police official added Muhammad was wanted for a long time by the police in a series of murder and extortion cases. Police had failed to arrest the culprit in the past because he would flee to Afghanistan after committing the crime.
