Planning ahead: Over two dozen suspects arrested in a crackdown in Nowshera
Shifted to undisclosed location for interrogation
NOWSHERA:
At least 25 suspects hailing from Bara tehsil of Khyber Agency were held ahead of Muharram during a search operation at Jalozai Camp for displaced people on Tuesday.
DSP Waqar Khan of Pabbi circle, while talking to The Express Tribune, said an operation was launched under his supervision early morning by the Azakhel and Pabbi police. He added all the entry and exit points were sealed and the objective of the operation was to secure Peshawar and the surrounding region for Muharram.
The DSP confirmed around 25 suspects from Khyber Agency were held and shifted to an undisclosed location for interrogation.
“Anyone suspected of being guilty will be put behind bars, while innocent people will be released shortly,” he added. The officer explained that the detainees were taken to an undisclosed location to stop families, tribal elders and political leaders from disrupting the investigation.
Five suspected kidnappers held
Three abducted people were rescued and five suspected kidnappers were held in a raid on a house in Akora Khattak on Tuesday.
SP Investigations Israruddin Bacha told journalists the police were tipped off about some kidnappers holding several people at a house. He added that a heavy contingent of the Akora Khattak police raided the premises in Baghban Pura and held five suspects, while three abducted people were rescued.
All the suspects hail from Afghanistan. The officer said they were identified as Khan Gul from Logar, Rasool Khan, Aminullah and Rahmatullah from Paktia, and Abdul Hadi from Kabul. The three rescued individuals were also from the neighbouring country and were identified as Syed Wali, a resident of Mazar Sharif, and Abdul Baseer and Sakhi Dad from Kabul.
The SP explained the victims were kidnapped for a ransom of $10,000. He added they were found chained inside a room, while two laptops, two 9mm pistols, four cell phones and several rounds of bullets were recovered from the possession of the suspects.
Cases were filed and further investigation is under way.
