PQA register 179-run win in round two

Sohail helps team defeat Tigers on day four in Quaid-e-Azam Trophy

KARACHI:
A splendid bowling attack from Sohail Khan helped PQA record an impressive 179-run win on the fourth and final day of their second-round clash against hosts Multan Tigers in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Gold at the Multan Cricket Stadium.

Chasing a tough target of 322 runs, Tigers were sent packing for 143 as Sohail bagged six wickets for 81 runs in the match following a four-wicket haul in the first innings.

Muhammad Sami and Azam Hussain also took two wickets each for PQA, while Muhammad Irfan was the top-scorer for losing side at 41.

In another match, NBP recorded a nine-wicket win over Rawalpindi Rams at the Pindi Stadium. The departmental team hunted down 40 runs for the loss of one wicket on the final day of the match to record an easy win.

Rams continued their second innings on 147-4, but only managed to add 54 in 14.1 overs on the final day to set a target of 40 runs for the bankers as they posted a total of 444 in their first innings.

Fawad Alam was the man with the bat for NBP, scoring 201 in the first innings while Bilal Qureshi scored 22 in the second for NBP’s win.

Over at the National Stadium in Karachi, a strong partnership between Majid Khan and Fazal Subhan helped Karachi Dolphins set a solid target for SNGPL on day three of their second round.

The duo scored a combined 171 runs to add to the total of 365-5 in 105 overs on day three. Majid struck 79 off 168 balls and Fazal scored 90 off 157 balls while Saad Ali played an innings of 73. Imran Khalid took four wickets for SNGPL, giving away 134 runs.


SNGPL now have to reach 367 on the fourth and final day to register a win in the second round.

Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Silver

The Silver edition of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy saw all the departments registering victories in the second round, with only one match concluding on a draw.

SSGC won by an innings and 243 runs, defeating Faisalabad Wolves, as Tabish Khan and Muhammad Irfan performed for SSGC. Both the bowlers bagged four wickets apiece in the first innings and then accounted for three batsmen each in second innings. Tariq Haroon was the man-with-the-bat for SSGC scoring 137 off 207 balls.

In other matches, PIA won by 10 wickets against Hyderabad Hawks, PTV defeated Karachi Zebras by six wickets, KRL overcame Quetta Bears by 10 wickets and HBL won by an innings and 14 runs, crushing Abbottabad Falcons.

Meanwhile, the match between State Bank and Bahawalpur Stags was drawn after four days of play as the bankers scored 525 in their first innings and the Stags were pushed in to follow-on after they were bowled out on 274 in their first innings and could only manage 87-2 at the end of play on day four.
