Double murder: Families protest against police

They dispersed after assurance by DSP Khurarianwala that suspects would be arrested

FAISALABAD:
Dozens of people staged a protest demonstration on Tuesday against Khurarianwala police  for not arresting suspects of murdering two men.  The protesters from Bilal Town blocked the Khurarianwala-Faisalabad Road. Muhammad Amjad, one of the protesters, said that police had failed to take action against culprits behind the murder of Muhammad Imran, 27, and Muhammad Irfan, 20. “The men were sitting in a barber’s shop on October 20 when the suspects shot them dead in broad daylight and walked away. Everyone saw them,” he said. Amjad said police had registered a case but were not taking the suspects in custody. “The policemen are demanding bribes for taking action against them,” Amjad said. The protesters chanted slogans against the police and demanded departmental action against the officers for demanding bribes. The Khurarianwala deputy superintendent police (DSP) arrived at the spot and talked to the protesters. He assured them that the suspects would be arrested within 48 hours. The protesters then dispersed.
