PCB planning to hold tournament to honour Malala
PCB chief planning to introduce the tournament to give women's cricket a boost
ISLAMABAD:
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Tuesday said it aimed to hold a women's cricket cup in the name of the Nobel Peace Prize Winner, Malala Yousafzai as a tribute to her achievements.
While talking to APP, a PCB official said the chairman was planning to introduce a tournament named after Malala to give women cricketers a boost and build up their confidence.
"However the final decision will be made after consultation with the board to finalise the Cup," he said.
Pakistan’s women cricket team won a gold medal in the recently held 17th Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea.
“Women players won the Asian Gold Medal twice, and therefore have a right to be recognised worldwide,” added the cricket body official.
Malala gained worldwide recognition after she was shot by the Taliban in Swat in 2012 for her outspokenness regarding women and their right to education.
