Hamza exits Qatar snooker event

Compatriot Sajjad also bows out of 6-Red championship

Pakistan’s young cueist Hamza Akbar crashed out of the 1st Qatar Academy 6-Red Snooker Championship semi-finals on Tuesday after a 6-5 loss at the hands of Iran’s Soheil Vahedi.

Despite trailing 3-1 initially, Hamza fought hard and equalised at one stage. However, his opponent once again restored his two-frame lead by winning the seventh and eighth frames to go 5-3 up.

Hamza refused to succumb to pressure and fought back to level the match 5-5. However, he ran out of luck in the decider as Vahedi, without conceding a single point, triumphed with scores of 43-08, 48-19, 21-43, 59-01, 19-43, 15-31, 38-11, 42-19, 15-35, 06-59 and 49-0.


Earlier in the quarter-finals, Hamza had defeated Qatar’s Ahmad Al Saif 5-1 with scores of 27-38, 42-01, 41-07, 51-36, 39-0 and 39-26, while compatriot Muhammad Sajjad lost to Malaysia’s Moo Keen Hoo -0, 57-0, 41-0, 39-10, 05-45 and 38-25 in his last-eight clash.
