Public health: Veterinary university, medical school planned

Veterinary university would be built at a cost of Rs56m, while Rs300m will be spent on Bahawalnagar Medical College

Bahawalpur Commissioner Javed Akbar on Monday said a proposal for construction of a veterinary university in Bahawalpur and a medical college in Bahawalnagar had been approved by the provincial government.


He said the veterinary university would be built at a cost of Rs56 million. He said Rs300 million would be spent on Bahawalnagar Medical College. He was addressing a meeting of divisional development committee.

It was told in the meeting Bahawalnagar Hospital would be upgraded at a cost of Rs250 million and Rs100 million funds had been released for completion of a cardiology department at Victoria Hospital in Bahawalpur. Akbar said a thalassemia and bone-marrow transplant also be constructed at a cost of Rs300 million. He said approval had been given for a children’s hospital in Bahawalpur. He said Rs50 million would be spent on the project. The commissioner took notice of delays in completion of various projects at Victoria Hospital and directed officials to complete them as soon as possible.

He said no delays in service delivery would be tolerated.

He further told the meeting an intensive care unit in Bahawal Victoria Hospital would be upgraded at a cost of Rs40 million rupees.

He said hospitals in Ahmadpur East, Hasilpur, Chistian, Sadiqabad and Liaquatpur would also be upgraded at a cost of Rs150 million.
