Mob violence: Crowd beats ‘robber’ to death in Napier

Separately, Rangers arrested five gang members during a raid in Lyari

KARACHI:
An alleged robber was beaten to death by an enraged crowd in the Old City area within the limits of the Napier police station on Monday.

Police sources said that two suspects were trying to flee after looting pedestrians at Faqir Muhammad Darra Road. However, a crowd of people managed to catch one of them and proceeded to physically assault him. Upon receiving information about the incident, the police reached the site and rescued the suspect. He was shifted to Civil Hospital, Karachi, but succumbed to his injuries during treatment.


Napier SHO Azam Khan confirmed the incident, saying that the mob gathered after the robbers opened fire when the people who were being looted resisted. He said that the deceased was later identified as Kamran, a resident of the Bihar Colony area of Lyari. A case has been registered and further investigations are underway.

Earlier, at least five gang members were taken into custody during a targeted raid in Lyari. Police sources said that the raid was conducted by the Rangers, who arrested members of the Samiullah Lakho group after an exchange of fire. Weapons were also recovered from the possession of the detainees, who were later shifted to an undisclosed location for further questioning.
