LAHORE:
More than 3,000 police officials were deployed to maintain security for the Pakistan Awami Tehreek’s (PAT) public meeting at Minar-i-Pakistan, Minto Park, on Sunday.
The PAT had also deployed 2,500 volunteers for security.
Operations Deputy Inspector General Haider Ashraf said that no road had been blocked as police had issued a traffic plan a day earlier.
He said four entrances, two each for men and women, had been created at the site of the procession. Walkthrough gates and CCTV cameras had been installed there, he said.
Metro Bus Service remained suspended on Sunday.
Security SP Liaquat Malik said police had only blocked Azadi Bridge for traffic. He said plainclothesmen had also been deployed for the public meeting.
