Scarcity of water: Town associations disgruntled

Town associations complained that KWSB had raised its tariffs to Rs204 per 1,000 gallons

KARACHI:

Representatives of various town associations have expressed concerns over the acute scarcity of water supply in Karachi.

Blaming the Karachi Water and Sewage Board (KWSB) for the situation, they said the board had raised its tariffs to Rs204 per 1,000 gallons, the highest among all provinces, without consulting industrialists.

They complained that despite the presence of a high-level committee of town representatives and industrialists, headed by Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon, the decision was taken by the board independently.

Presidents of the industrial and town associations have decided to take up the matter with the committee and have requested KSWB chairman and Memon to extend the due date of payment of water bills till the matter is resolved.
