Taliban extend deadline for release of kidnapped VC

Taliban hold onto Dr Ajmal Khan. Claim the ANP government are well aware of the demands of the kidnappers.

PESHAWAR:

Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has extended the deadline for the release of Islamia College University's vice-chancellor Dr Ajmal Khan indefinitely. This message was conveyed by TTP kidnappers in a video released from an unknown location.

In the video, the Taliban claimed that the ANP government as well as the jirga that held its session at Dr Ajmal's residence were well aware of the demands of the kidnappers. They claimed that the deadline for the release of Dr Khan had been extended till demands were met, however any future deadline set by the Taliban will not be extended.

Earlier, the TTP had set November 20 as the deadline date for Dr Khan's release. He was kidnapped on September 7, 2010 and is a locally-renowned academic and a close ally of the ruling Awami National Party (ANP) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
