Advising compliance: Dept organises seminar on fire safety
Civil Defence Department arranges a seminar on fire safety at the Alhamra Arts Council

The Civil Defence Department arranged a seminar on fire safety on Thursday at the Alhamra Arts Council. The speakers stressed the importance of reviewing and implementing guidelines issued by the department regularly to prevent fires from erupting due to negligence. They also advised those attending the seminar to install safety gadgets to ensure public safety. Qari Alam Sher of the department said that literature on fire safety measures was distributed among the occasion participants. He said that they were advised to implement the guidelines and ensure compliance with standards to prevent fires at buildings. He said the department had issued notices to owners of 2,000 buildings regarding the installation of fire safety gadgets. Sher said the department had directed them to adopt 11 measures aimed at preventing fires. These included eliminating fire hazards, checking electrical installations, ensuring compliance with no-smoking policy, inspecting fire protection gadgets, keeping flammable materials in enclosed casings; avoiding overloading electrical circuits and not leaving lit candles unattended. Scores of government officials, businessmen and hospitality management workers were present on the occasion.
