On the job: Crackdown against beggars begins

Six of the beggars arrested were sent to Subhani Home, 11 to Edhi Centre

A special squad of the district administration launched a campaign against beggars in various parts of the city on Wednesday and took 21 beggars into custody. The squad picked up beggars from The Mall, Ravi Road, Davis Road, Jail Road, Shadman, Ferozepur Road, Kalma Chowk and Barkat Market.  Of those taken into custody, six were sent to Subhani Home and 11 to Edhi Centre. Four of the eunuchs arrested were allowed to go after they were given a warning.

The district coordination officer said the campaign would continue till the streets in the city were free of beggars.



DCO Captain (retd) Muhammad Usman has also directed all town administration officials to adhere to the standard operating procedures in dealing with dengue mosquitoes. He said it was their duty to ensure the complete eradication of dengue mosquitoes from the city.


The DCO chaired a meeting in this regard on Wednesday in which he reviewed the TMA officials’ performance and the steps they had taken in regards with dengue surveillance.

The officials informed the DCO that they had visited 50,930 houses and 12,715 open spaces they thought could be breeding sites for dengue mosquitoes.

They said that they found and removed dengue mosquito larvae from 169 places. Cases were registered against 28 people in this regard and eight of them were arrested.
