Police claim to have killed two alleged kidnappers in a bid to rescue a minor girl from their captivity in Korangi. Meanwhile, over a dozen suspects were detained during a search operation in Afghan Basti on Super Highway.
The two alleged kidnappers were killed when they arrived at the rendezvous point to meet the family of the three-year-old girl, Y*, to collect the ransom amount. Officials of the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC), Anti-Violent Crime Cell and Korangi Police were present in the area at the time.
“The girl had been kidnapped on Tuesday while on the way home from school with her father,” said the CPLC spokesperson. “The kidnappers had intercepted the victims on their motorcycles and taken the girl with them.”

According to AVCC officials, the kidnappers had demanded Rs5 million in ransom and had warned the family of dire consequences if they failed to pay. “When the suspects reached the site to collect the ransom, the law enforcers attempted to catch them but were met with heavy resistance,” said an official of AVCC. “The police managed to kill two of the kidnappers and arrested two others.”
The two suspects were shifted to an undisclosed location for questioning where they divulged details about their hideout where the girl was being kept.
Separately, over one dozen suspects were detained during a search operation in Afghan Basti, located on Super Highway. The search operation was carried out by District Malir police on a tip-off regarding the presence of members of banned outfits. The suspects managed, however, to escape under the cover of fire.
The police later detained some suspects during the door-to-door search operation. Sohrab Goth DSP Qamar Ahmed said that the police had detained around 15 suspects and were verifying their details.
