Park Enclave: With stay gone, work on project resumes

Contractor reinitiated work after court order was vacated

ISLAMABAD:
The Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Wednesday finally managed to get a stay order — obtained by the residents of Kuri village against initiation of developmental work at Park Enclave — vacated, allowing the project to finally move ahead.

Following the legal decision, the contractor for the project mobilised heavy machinery on the site and leveled land to carve out the internal road network in the colony after removing seasonal crops illegally sown by people from nearby areas on CDA land.

Two locals who resisted the move were arrested by police officials accompanying the CDA’s enforcement team. The CDA team and Islamabad Police officials remained present at the worksite until the evening.

The Park Enclave housing project has been shelved for a prolonged period of time. The present regime prioritised the housing project on its agenda and awarded the development contract after clearance of all hindrances on war footing, said a statement issued by the authority.

According to the new deadline, the project would be completed within a year at a total cost of Rs 1.24 billion. The authority has allocated Rs 500 million for the project for the ongoing financial year.

CDA Chairman Maroof Afzal said further delays in execution of the project would not be tolerated.

The chairman said the allottees of the housing project would be given possession of their plots soon after the completion of development activities.

Development work in Park Enclave includes the construction of major roads, service roads, streets, footpaths, drainage systems, a water supply system, a sewerage system, construction of bridges and culverts, and electrification work. The development work also includes construction of the main entry gate, security check posts and landscaping.
