Suicide bomber targets check post of peace committee volunteers

At least seven people were killed and five others were injured in a suicide attack on a check post of peace committee volunteers in the Pir Mela area of Tirah Valley, Khyber Agency on Wednesday morning.

The political administration officials said volunteers of a peace committee were present at the check post when a suicide bomber detonated explosives, killing five volunteers on the spot. Two of the deceased were said to be children.

According to the officials, the injured - several of whom are in critical condition - were shifted to local private clinics.


"At least five tribesmen were killed and seven others were wounded after a suicide bomber blew himself up," a local government official told AFP.

Local security officials also confirmed the bombing and casualties.

Meanwhile, a spokesperson of Governor of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) province Mehtab Ahmed Khan told AFP that the top provincial official condemned the suicide bombing and ordered health authorities to provide the best care for the wounded.

So far no one has claimed responsibility for the latest suicide attack but officials allege involvement of banned Lashkar-e-Islam (LeI), headed by Mangal Bagh.
