The Punjab government has asked farmers in arid areas to grow wheat varieties

The Punjab government has asked farmers in arid areas to grow wheat varieties that are recommended by the agriculture department. The department has approved the following wheat varieties: Chakwal 50, NARC 2009, BARS 2009, Dharabi 2011 and Pakistan 2013. It has advised farmers to use fertilisers and prepare their land on time. The growing period for Chakwal 50 is from October 15 to November 15 while October 20 to November 15 is the period for the other three varieties in the arid areas. Kangi, Kagiari, Karnaal Bant and Akhaira are the diseases of wheat crop and farmers have been advised to use only varieties which are resistant to these diseases. The farmers can also consult the agriculture department about the proper use of fertilisers and insecticides.
