Imran wants govt to prosecute Zahra Shahid’s killers

Imran says Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will be the first province to hold local government polls

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf chairman Imran Khan on Tuesday pressed the government to disregard political pressure and prosecute those arrested in Zahra Shahid’s murder, Experss News reported.

Shahid, the central vice president of PTI, was shot dead outside her house in Karachi, hours before re-elections in some polling stations of NA-250 in May 2013.

“I have come to know that her killers have been arrested,” he said. “I demand they should be prosecuted even if they are a part of a political party.”

Imran said the government should not bow down before any pressure and urged the parties to identify and punish such elements within their ranks.

“I will punish criminals within my party as well,” he said.

K-P to hold local government elections

Referring to a judgement on local government elections, Imran said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government will be the first province to hold the polls.

“Foundations of successful democracies were laid through local governments,” said the PTI chairman. “We will devolve powers to citizens allowing them to take decisions themselves.”

Imran added that no member of Parliament in K-P will get development funds, and criticised the incumbent rulers for not holding the local body polls.

“They don’t hold elections because they want to keep power in their hands.”

Political gathering in Sargodha

Imran also announced a rally in Sargodha for Friday, October 17. He added that arrangements for the stage will be directly under his command.

“It will be an organised stage, while the control of doors will also be under PTI,” he said.

'Youth Day'

Imran said he will 'lecture' college and university students on how to become a leader on Thursday.

“Naya Pakistan will be here before next Eid,” concluded the PTI chairman.
