Qasim Bagh stampede: ‘Power supply was not cut off’

MEPCO says uninterrupted power was supplied to the stadium during the PTI gathering

MULTAN:
Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) on Sunday disputed a statement from the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) on suspension of power supply at Qasim Bagh Stadium during the public gathering on Friday. According to a handout, uninterrupted power was supplied to the stadium during the PTI gathering through an 11-KV Eid Gah feeder. The statement said the feeder did not trip “even for a minute.” The statement said this could be verified from a computerised record of the National Power Control Centre in Islamabad and Regional Control Centre in Jamshoro. He said a standby transformer trolley was also provided. The spokesman said floodlights of the stadium were on during and after the meeting.
