Paddy Price: Cotton growers voice complaints

30 ginning mills in the four districts of the Mirpurkhas division are exploiting farmers

HYDERABAD:
Cotton growers complained that the 30 ginning mills in the four districts of the Mirpurkhas division are exploiting farmers by paying them a lower rate for their crop. Sindh Hari Tehreek president Ayaz Khoso said that the Sindh government has not notified the official rates of cotton despite having assured the farmers that Rs3,200 per maund will be fixed. The growers are being paid between Rs2,400 to Rs2,600 by the mills and the weighing machines of the mills are also tampering with the crop’s weight. Meanwhile, a leader of the ginning mills association, Chaudhry Aijaz, denied the charges saying that their weighing machines give accurate results. He alleged that the farmers exaggerate the weight of their product.
