Couple shot dead over ‘love marriage’
No formal complaint of the killings had been received by the police
FAISALABAD:
A couple was shot dead for marrying without the girls’ parents approval near Millat Town police station on Friday.
Asghar Ali, a relative of the couple, told The Express Tribune that Shahbaz, a resident of Chak 202-RB, married his cousin Sumera Bibi in a local court six months ago. He said the couple kept their nuptials secret.
He said the girl’s family found out about the wedding on Eid. He said they got very angry and asked Shahbaz to divorce her.
He said Shahbaz refused and took Sumera with him.
He said on Thursday, Sumera’s maternal uncle Khalid Mehmood called Shahbaz to his house to discuss reconciliation. He said when Shahbaz entered the house, Mehmood and some accomplices shot and killed him. He said later, Mehmood called Sumera to the house and shot and killed her too. He said the men then fled from the scene.
He said on hearing gunshots, neighbours gathered at the house.
He said they took the couple to Allied Hospital where they were declared dead on arrival.
Millat Town station house officer said the bodies were taken to a mortuary for post mortem. He said no formal complaint of the killings had been received by the police.
