Bad business: ‘I am being forced into prostitution

Petitioner Uzma Bibi tells court that she had married Muhammad Ashiq a year ago

An additional district and sessions judge on Thursday sought comments from Shahdara station house officer on a woman’s petition seeking a case against her husband for trying to force her into prostitution. Petitioner Uzma Bibi told the court that she had married Muhammad Ashiq a year ago. She said her husband had been using derogatory language against her over petty issues. She said she had complained to her mother-in-law but to no avail. She said more recently, her husband and her mother-in-law pressing her into prostitution. She said Ashiq had told her that he would kill her if she did not agree. She said she had left her husband and was living with her parents. She said she had also approached police but they did not take her complaint seriously.  She asked the court to direct the SHO to register a case against her husband and her mother-in-law.
