Suspected strangulation: Woman’s body found in a sack
Shahzad Town police claim the body appears to be a week old
ISLAMABAD:
The strangulated body of an unidentified woman stuffed into a gunny bag was found along with animal remains at a dumping site located near a graveyard in Shahzad Town on Thursday.
The victim, reportedly 30 years of age with a light-dark complexion, was clad in a black shalwar kameez. The body was found in a greenbelt of Nizamuddin Town in the limits of Shahzad Town Police Station.
The investigating officer of the case, sub-inspector Shaukat Ali, said the body was found amid the remains of sacrificial animals and a passerby informed the police about its presence. The officer said the police reached the spot and ‘found the body discarded in a gunny bag’ in a ditch at the garbage site. “The victim was strangled with visible signs of ropes around her neck.”
Doctors said the body appeared to be a week old, adding that medical examinations confirmed the woman was not raped or tortured before her death. It seems the killer(s) kept the body for a few days and dumped it along with the remains of sacrificial animals during Eid days, said the officer.
It is the first incident of its kind in the jurisdiction of the Shahzad Town police, Ali recalled. He said such cases are rare in the capital where the crime rate is comparatively lower than the rest of the country. The officer said the identity of the victim could not be ascertained so far, adding that all the police stations were asked to help if anyone registered a missing persons case. He further informed that announcements were made through mosques for ascertaining the victim’s identity. Ali conjectured that the killing could be a result of domestic violence.
