KARACHI:

With the death toll from Indian shelling across the Line of Control rising to 12, the Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) has announced that ‘Defence of Pakistan Day’ will be observed today to protest the cross-border attack.

“The government of [Indian Prime Minister Narendra] Modi, the butcher of Muslims in Indian Gujarat, has begun its violation of the Line of Control after only a few months of being in power,” said MWM secretary-general Allama Raja Nasir Abbas Jafari at a press conference held at Pak Moharram Hall on Thursday.

He alleged that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz government, installed through a “fraudulent election” would prefer subservience to India. “We appeal to all Pakistanis to join us in observing Defence of Pakistan Day against this betrayal,” he said.

Jafari said that MWM had decided to expand its anti-government protests to all corners of the country, staging public meetings, rallies, demonstrations and token sit-ins. “We shall oust the government through the peaceful means of mass awakening.”
