DG Civil Aviation says measure taken owing to security concerns

PESHAWAR: International flights at night have been suspended at Bacha Khan International Airport due to recent incidents of firing at the airport, Express News reported.

"The decision was made due to security concerns," DG Civil Aviation said, during his briefing on Thursday.

On October 7, four unidentified men opened fire on a passenger plane at Peshawar airport. The firing took place around 4:30am in the morning and no casualty or loss of life was reported.

Earlier, Emirates and Etihad halted operations at the Bacha Khan following an attack on a Pakistan International Airlines airplane on June 25. A female passenger was killed and two crew members were injured in the attack.

However, Emirates resumed operations soon at the airport but Etihad still has not.

I have lived 4 years in Switzerland. No flights whatsoever, including international and domestic, are allowed to land or take-off during night, due to the noise disturbance they create for the General public living around the airport. I fully support this idea of banning international flights at night.Good step.

@ExPat: The problem here is that of SECURITY, which the provincial government has FAILED to provide because its leaders are busy dancing in the dharns for past many weeks. Stop dishing out typical lame excuses of PTI's ineptness!
