Reckless riding: Bikers caught doing wheelies granted bail

More than 100 motorcyclists released

LAHORE:

Judicial magistrates on Wednesday released more than a hundred motorcyclists on bail. They had been arrested doing wheelies on Monday and Tuesday.

Arrested bikers from Ghalib Market, Garden Town and Ichhra, who had been charged under the Pakistan Penal Code, were presented before judicial magistrates in Model Town, Cantonment and district courts where they were released on bail after submitting surety bonds.

Ghalib Market police produced 25 suspects, Ichhra police produced nine and Garden Town police produced 14 people before the judicial magistrate at Model Town. Ravi Road, Shadara and Cantonment police also brought dozens of bikers to the courts.

Counsel for some of the suspects told courts that police had implicated the young men for refusing to pay bribes and they had not violated any law.

Policemen said that they had violated the law on reckless driving. They said that they were performing wheelies.

Khurram, who was granted bail, said he was implicated in a false case. He said he had not performed wheelies.

“Policemen stopped me at a picket and demanded Rs5,000 for letting me go. I did not have the money on me so they arrested me and took me to the police station,” he said.

Investigation Officer Shakeel said the allegations levelled against police were false. He said the bikers were taken into custody for violating the law.
