RAWALPINDI:
The Punjab Environment Protection Agency (EPA), under anti-dengue drive, inspected 36 sites and sealed Yasir Autos, Dhoke Dalal and Khan Autos in Khyaban-e-Sir Syed area on Sunday due to non-compliance with government orders. EPA District Officer Mian Mohammad Nawaz said inspection teams also removed stagnant water from two potential breeding sites, adding that the anti-dengue drive will continue during Eidul Azha holidays and special checking will be conducted at Gawalmandi, Mohan Pura, Dhoke Ratta, Khyabane-e-Sir Syed and other areas as the government was concerned at the rise in dengue cases. The relevant departments have been directed to step up efforts as dengue cases rose after Eid last year, he said. Giving a breakdown of the inspection, Nawaz said EPA teams visited 21 tyre shops, 12 junkyards, one nursery and two under-construction sites. He said 34 sites were declared clear of dengue larva as the standard operating procedures were being followed there.
