Voice of dissent: PTI issues show-cause notice to Javed Naseem

PTI lawmaker Javed Naseem protested against his own party outside Peshawar Press Club on Saturday

PESHAWAR:

A show-cause notice has been issued to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmaker Javed Naseem for issuing statements against party leaders, stated the party’s provincial president Azam Khan Swati. According to Swati, the PTI MPA had acted against party discipline.

“Issuing statements against party leaders is against PTI’s policy,” said Swati, according to a press statement issued on Saturday. The MPA has been asked to reply to the notice within seven days.

Earlier on Saturday, PTI lawmaker Javed Naseem protested against his own party outside Peshawar Press Club (PPC). He made scathing remarks about rampant corruption and nepotism, and challenged the authority of Chief Minister (CM) Pervez Khattak.

A group of protesters gathered outside PPC and shouted slogans of “Go Khattak Go”. Naseem said he would stage a sit-in to force the chief minister to quit the government as he has failed to deliver promises made in the party’s manifesto.

According to Naseem, the sit-in will be held after Eidul Azha.

Naseem had been elected from PK-3, Peshawar, however, he subsequently developed disagreements with PTI. Naseem, along with 13 other PTI MPAs, had formed a forward bloc in the party.

Voice of dissent

Addressing the protesters, Naseem raised his voice against the CM. “We will be electing our CM from Peshawar,” said Naseem. “Whoever becomes chief minister has always focused the province’s resources on their own constituencies. As a result, the provincial capital has always being ignored.”

According to Naseem, all resources were focused on Mardan during the previous government whereas the current government has concentrated time and energy on Nowshera—the constituency of CM Khattak. Meanwhile, the people of Peshawar have not been consulted on important issues.

“We will snatch the government from Pervez Khattak,” he warned, asking Imran Khan to take notice of the K-P government’s performance or else they will take matters into their own hands.

“I have not been provided access to the central leadership of the party, especially Imran,” stated Naseem. As a result, he has not been able to provide a solution to the challenges posed by corruption and nepotism in the provincial government.

Protesters said they have taken to the streets to protect their party from corrupt leaders who failed to deliver their promises and have indulged in nepotism.

“I am loyal to Imran’s decision to take a stand against corruption in the country. However, the party cannot champion the cause if the provincial government is marred with corruption,” Naseem added.
