Sindhi traditional wrestlers, locally known as ‘malhs’, held a protest along with their children under the banner of Sindh Malh Association (SMA) in front of the Bhutto mausoleum in Garhi Khuda Bux on Saturday.
They also announced to celebrate Eidul Azha at the Ghari Khuda Bux graveyard. The protesters included SMA president Muharram Ali Majidano, general secretary Ali Nawaz Panhwar, Ismail Buriro, Allah Dad Rahu, Ali Hassan Thebo, Ghulam Hussain Chand, Ghulam Hyder Almani, Rahib Tagar and others. They demanded that the malhs of Sindh be given facilities at par with Punjab’s wrestlers that are being given to them by the Punjab government. They demanded proper jobs to earn their livelihood, the appointment of wrestling coaches on taluka level and financial support from endowment fund for retired and ailing wrestlers.
They also demanded that the ‘Malakhro’ organisation be handed over to the SMA on the eve of the annual urs celebrations of Shah Abdul Lateef Bhittai, Lal Shahbaz Qalandar and Sachal Sarmast. The protesters said that one of their wrestlers, Razak Dakhan, died in Johi a few days ago because he had no money for his treatment which is a shame for the rulers of Sindh.
