Clean-up: Sanitary staff’s leave cancelled

Over 4,000 to perform sanitation duties in the twin cities on Eid.

RAWALPINDI:

Leave of sanitary staff in Islamabad and Rawalpindi has been cancelled to ensure cleanliness and dispose of sacrificial animals’ remains on Eid.

Rawalpindi District Solid Waste Management Company (DSWMC) cancelled leave of around 2,000 sanitary workers and officials on Eid.

The company has finalised a comprehensive plan for Eidul Azha to dispose of the waste of sacrificial animals. The managing director of DSWMC said 85 vehicles would be part of the special drive to dispose of the remains.

He said 140 collection points have been set up for public convenience at the union-council level. The public has been asked to contact the department at 1139.

The department will also spray at collection points and other areas after disposing of the remnants to prevent spread of diseases.

Meanwhile, the Capital Development Authority (CDA) has also deployed 2,500 sanitary workers on emergency duty for disposal of waste in the federal capital during Eid.

The sanitation directorate will use 100 vehicles, tractors and trolleys, compactors, trucks and dumpers during the drive. The department will also sprinkle lime stone around the garbage trolleys and at sacrificial places.

CDA Chairman Maroof Afzal has requested public to cooperate with the staff and not to throw remains on the greenbelts, saying that the team will collect the waste from residential areas.

People can contact CDA Sanitation Directorate at 1334 and 051-9213908, 051-9203216 and 051-9211555.

The directorate will work round the clock in three shifts and all staff leave has been canceled. The civic body will dig 20 ditches at various locations to dump the remains while an emergency cell has been established at the directorate in Sector G-6/1 to oversee the operations.
