Awami National Party not on board for new tax

ANP is not yet on board for the levy of a new tax in the country, said its chief in a press conference.

PESHAWAR:
Awami National Party (ANP) is not yet on board for the levy of a new tax in the country, said its chief in a press conference on Saturday.

ANP chief Asfandyar Wali Khan said that people were already facing sky-rocketing prices and the levy of a new tax would further increase their grievances. He said ANP will never support the levy of another tax. He was talking to the media at the chief minister house in Peshawar on Saturday.

However, he added, ANP had constituted a committee comprising economic expert to prepare a report on the Reformed General Sales Tax.

The committee will prepare the report shortly after Eidul Azha and put it before ANP’s Central Working Committee, who will then take final decision. He said the government should give priority to the interest of people over the conditions imposed by World Bank and International Monetary Fund.

To a question regarding the kidnapping of Ajmal Khan, the vice chancellor (VC) of Islamia College University, Asfandyar Wali said that they were sure that the VC’s was being kept in Waziristan.

“Ajmal Khan is not only my cousin, but also my best friend. I am anxious for his early recovery,” he added.
