Crimes against women: Suspect confesses to killing college student
Gulberg police on Friday claimed to have arrested a man wanted for killing a college student two weeks ago.
Gulberg Station House Officer (SHO) Muhammad Siddique told The Express Tribune that 17-year-old Ayesha*, a resident of Guru Nanak Pura, had been shot dead on her way to college by Faraz Tayyab and a friend on September 15. The attackers had fled after killing her.
He said her family had staged several protest demonstrations seeking arrest of those responsible. He said the chief minister had also taken notice of the attack.
He said the police had traced Tayyab through the girl’s phone record and arrested him.
He said Tayyab had confessed to killing her.
He told police that he had met her three years ago and had fallen in love. He said they had been talking on the phone and exchanging texts.
He said one day, her brother got found out about it and beat her. He said she then stopped talking to him and later got engaged to a cousin.
Tayyab told police he had killed her because she had left him for someone else.
He said he waited with a friend, Faisal, outside her house on the day he killed her.
He said Faisal intercepted Ayesha near GC University gate and called him.
He said he reached the spot and killed her. He said Faisal also shot her twice before the duo fled.
The Gulberg SHO said the police conducted raids and arrested Faisal on the information obtained from Tayyab.
He said the girl’s father sold chicken in Guru Nanak Pura.
He said Tayyab worked as a sales officer for a cellular phone company.
He said Tayyab had confessed to buying a pistol for Rs9,500 from a watchman at his .
He said his family found the gun and took it away from him, fearing the worst.
He said he was determined and later bought two pistols from the arms market and used it to kill the girl.
