PM calls upon religious scholars to play role in countering terrorism
Govt committed to providing social and economic justice to people, says Nawaz
ISLAMABAD:
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has called upon religious scholars to play their role in eliminating extremism and terrorism by promoting tolerance and inter-faith harmony, Radio Pakistan reported.
The premier also asked them to contribute towards the solidarity of the country, while talking to a delegation of the country’s leading scholars who called on him in Islamabad on Friday.
The premier said the government had inherited several issues, such as terrorism and power shortfalls, and asked scholars to play a positive role in making Pakistan a progressive country.
Nawaz said the government is committed to providing social and economic justice to people, and has formed a sub-committee of the Cabinet to give recommendations on reforms.
He lauded the role played by them in spreading the message of Islam to the masses and in inculcating Islamic values among them.
Moreover, he expressed regret concerning certain elements that are exploiting the name of Islam and Pakistan to create unrest in the country.
